It was a phenomenal weekend of performances.

Thursday started out with a private function for Systagenix at Oliver & Bonacini’s Arcadian Loft. It was a spectacular group, and working with the staff at Oliver & Bonacini is always a highlight.

Saturday took me to sonic paradise at Toronto’s Casa Loma. We arrived early, and took advantage of the time to enjoy the phenomenal sound in this space. Needless to say, Ashley and Chris’ wedding was a grand occasion.

Mother’s Day at Viamede Resort on Stoney Lake continued in a similar vein. In what is becoming an annual tradition, it was great to see a packed house, along with a lot of familiar arrivals for the start of the summer.

Looking forward to a great weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake (White Oaks), then returning to Toronto on Sunday for a wedding at Oliver & Bonacini’s Auberge du Pommier.

My goodness, that was a long winter…

This long shot from Paletta Mansion in Burlington, ON, Canada makes me smile at the nice long summer to come.

Things will be moving into high gear starting May 11, 2013 at Casa Loma in Toronto, ON, Canada, followed by a solid schedule through until October.

There are a lot of new sounds in the palette this year. I’ve worked a lot over the winter at creative ways to interpret contemporary songs on the acoustic guitar. I’ve been adding a lot more rhythm to pop and piano-based songs. New songs include Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ and Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love.’ Some more guitar-based songs include everything from Led Zeppelin’s ‘Battle of Evermore,’ to the Lumineers ‘Ho Hey.’

I love this picture from Waupoos Estate Winery in Picton. Such an interesting perspective, and a beautiful area.

I’ll be performing tonight (Thursday April 4, 2013) for a wine dinner @ Parkhill on Hunter in Peterborough, ON, Canada. The featured winery, ‘By Chadsey’s Cairns,’ is also based out of the Picton area. This was a last-minute show, so I apologize for the late notice.

I had a great Valentine’s performance at McKeck’s in Haliburton last night.

It was nice to see some familiar faces from last year. A very warm audience, and, as always, Karen and the staff were exceptional. Great new Italian menu too.

I also had a great talk with Mike Jaycock on Canoe FM in Haliburton on Tuesday February 12, 2013. I’ll have a link online soon.

I was working today on some photography from the summer.

This particular photo really struck me on this incredibly snowy day. It was taken during a soundcheck for a private function in August 2012. It’s nice to think of warmer days…

Meeting people who share the same passion for craftsmanship and detail is a rare thing. Rarer still is when your life and career paths have crossed similar intersections. When I first met Ashley and Steve, I think we spent more time chatting instead of going through music…

From our small-town roots to our work in advertising, Ashley and I shared a lot in common. Steve also competed for many years as a varsity athlete. I always find a strange kinship between athletes and musicians. The focused pursuit of a single goal seems to draw us together.

In terms of locations, Ashley and Steve’s wedding day was absolutely stunning. The ceremony was held at Ridley College Chapel in St. Catherines. It’s a beautiful stone church with incredible stained glass and a thunderous sound.

Musically, the ceremony was a unique blend of new and old. Pre-ceremony music ranged from contemporary artists such as Maroon 5 and Ben Harper, to classic artists such as Fleetwood Mac. The processional and recessional took on a formal tone; with music being covered by Ridley’s organist. For the signing, I performed Elvis’ Can’t Help Falling in Love With You. It was a great counterpoint to the sound of the organ.

The cocktail hour and reception were held at Southbrook Vineyards in Niagara-on-the-Lake. One of the region’s highlights, Southbrook has won numerous architectural and design awards. It has an openness that embraces the surrounding environment, combined with a warmth that you don’t find in a lot of modern buildings.

And, almost as if ordered on cue, the cocktail hour concluded with a final clearing of the skies–complete with a rainbow.

It was an honour to be a part of the day.
