One of the things I enjoy most about playing guitar at weddings, is getting to know each couple.

Eric and Sasha’s wedding was a unique opportunity in that I performed at two events: a rehearsal party, and the ceremony. It was fun to see everyone in two completely different settings. One more relaxed, and one more formal.

The rehearsal party was held at Le Select Bistro on Wellington St. (Toronto, ON). I have performed there many times, and absolutely love the venue. It has a beautiful, intimate back patio. A tranquil oasis from the nearby hustle of Spadina. The service here is always spectacular, as is the food.

The two events really allowed Eric and Sasha to showcase different sides of themselves musically. They chose a decidedly modern feel at the rehearsal party, featuring artists such as Death Cab for Cutie, Adele, Coldplay, the Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz and Maroon 5.

For every ounce of intimacy at Le Select Bistro, there was a corresponding ounce of grandeur for the ceremony held at the University of Toronto’s Hart House (Toronto, ON). This was my first time performing here, and I was absolutely blown away. Not only visually stunning, the large courtyard also sounded incredible. Layouts like this allow for great sound, combining outdoor expanse with just enough of a physical frame to give it context.

One of the things I loved most about Hart House was the long processional. It’s hard for the moment not to be dramatic in this setting. Everything is expansive, dynamic and clear as a bell. Each song can cycle through fully, drawing everyone in. I remember quite vibrantly when I started the Bride’s processional, Elvis’ I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You. The chords resonated beautifully, and I couldn’t help getting a little choked up myself as I saw Sasha starting to well up with tears.

It was truly a wonderful day to share with Eric and Sasha.
