The summer continues in fine form…

Had an amazing Canada Day long weekend at the Lantern and Burleigh Falls Inn. Some of the best audiences I’ve had for public shows in a long time. Real music lovers. Appreciative. Focused. Relaxed. It’s nice to play for people who aren’t glued to screens and actually engage with the world around them. Took a lot of risks at these shows, especially at the Lantern, playing new material. Found a lot of unique ways to cut into some older songs as well.

It occurred to me at both of these shows, that I don’t think people realize the huge role they play in live performances — even at a venue as low key as a restaurant or pub. For me, there’s an engagement you can sense. It focuses you just that little bit extra. You get more creative, put just a little more into each song. You can feel it come back to you.

And the cycle begins.
